True Success
Failing miserably. Succeeding well. For me? Neither, apparently.
Before embarking on my 100 Day Writing Challenge, I asked my Facebook friends for writing prompt suggestions. Full disclosure: I haven’t used any of them yet. 🤪
But two of them stuck out to me:
“A time you failed miserably” and “A time you succeeded well.” I don’t know what this says about me, but I honestly can’t think of any truly strong examples of either one. This is funny to me because I wouldn’t consider myself an even-keeled person…at all.
I am an emotional human.
I can get really positive and really negative.
I bounce between being super confident and thinking I’m the worst.
You’d think I’d be able to quickly identify my spectacular failures at least!
Maybe it has something to do with suppressing some feelings of failure trauma? 🤷♂️
Sure, I can recall moments I’m proud of. And I have books worth of examples of times I’ve really screwed up. But even the times I’ve $*!t the bed don’t really seem like failures. You learn and move on. And the successful times? I’ve definitely come to realize that the successes don’t stick with you very long.
Perhaps it’s just part of maturing…which I’m also not sure applies to me. But maybe you eventually start to understand that life is really about the journey. It’s less about winning and losing and more about learning and growing.
Maybe failure is only failure if you let it be. And success just is what it is.
So, I still don’t have a strong answer for either prompt.
Perhaps that’s really the true success?
